George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones 4-Book Bundle: A Song of Ice and Fire Series: A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, and A Feast ... a Storm of Swords, and a Feast for Crows by George R.R. MartinBantamGeorge R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series has become, in many ways, the gold standard for modern epic fantasy. Martin—dubbed the "American Tolkien" by Time magazine—has created a world that is as rich and vital as any piece of historical fiction, set in an age of knights and chivalry and filled with a plethora of fascinating, multidimensional characters that you love, hate to love, or love to hate as they struggle for control of a divided kingdom. It is this very vitality that has led it to be adapted as the HBO miniseries “Game of Thrones.” George R. R. MartinVoyagerBoth volumes of the third instalment of George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy series available together for the first time. The richest, most exotic and mesmerising saga since The Lord of the Rings, continues with A Storm of Swords. There is passion here, and misery and charm, grandeur and squalor, tragedy, nobility and courage. The Seven Kingdoms are divided by revolt and blood feud, and winter approaches like an angry beast. Beyond the Northern borders, wildlings leave their villages to gather in the ice and stone wasteland of the Frostfangs. From there, the renegade Brother Mance Rayder will lead them South towards the Wall. The men of the Night’s Watch are ready for the coming of a great cold and the walking corpses that travel with it. But now they face a horde of wildlings twenty-thousand strong – hungry savage people steeped in the dark magic of the haunted wilderness – poised to invade the Kingdom of the North where Robb Stark wears his new-forged crown. But Robb’s defences are ranged against attack from the South, the land of House Stark’s enemies the Lannisters. His sisters are trapped there, dead or likely yet to die, at the whim of the Lannister boy-king Joffrey or his depraved mother Cersei, regent of the Iron Throne. Cersei’s ambition is unfettered while the dwarf Tyrion Lannister fights for his life, a victim of treachery. And on the other side of the ocean, the last of the Targaryens rears the dragons she hatched from her husband’s funeral pyre. Daenerys Stormborn will return to the land of her birth to avenge the murder of her father, the last Dragon King on the Iron Throne. Both volumes of the third instalment of George R. R. Song of the Fairy Queen by Valerie DouglasCreateSpaceIt's said of Fairy that if you're in dire need and you call their name they'll come. With his castle under siege and young son in his arms, High King Oryan couldn't be in more dire need. With only his High Marshal, Morgan, and a handful of Morgan's men at his back, he has only one direction left to run...up. And only one ally to whom he can turn. Kyriay, the Queen of the Fairy. ***** I just started re-reading this book - I still can't get over how the first chapter caught my attention and held me throughout the story. I definitely agree with other reviews saying that the story is an epic story of good triumphing over evil. The characters on both sides are true and real, not infallible but vulnerable and by no means stereotyped or charactures, but real and complex. The author has a way of drawing readers into the battle and action scenes that go beyond flying in with swords flashing and arrows flying, though there is plenty of that and the battle scenes are intense. People whether good or bad have motives for what they do, and this story captures that very well. Song of the Fairy Queen is a very good read for those looking for a good fantasy novel, and has a lot more to offer as a story beyond that. Well written with a complex plot and easy to follow story, and definitely a must read. Drew Stephens It's said of Fairy that if you're in dire need and you call their name they'll come.
